Metso launches electric mineral wool melting furnace with low CO2 emissions
Melting of the raw materials in the mineral wool industry has traditionally been done with gas- or coal-fired cupola furnaces. To reduce the CO2 footprint of production, the industry is switching from cupola to electric furnaces. Metso is supporting this transformation with the introduction of the Outotec® Mineral Wool Furnace, an electric furnace for melting mineral wool.
“Demand for insulation materials is growing due to the tightening energy-efficiency requirements. At the same time, the insulation material industry is aiming for better efficiency and carbon neutrality in their production processes. Using Metso’s Outotec® Mineral Wool Furnace in the melting process is an efficient way to decrease carbon dioxide emissions,” says Tom Rönnberg, Technology Director at Metso.
The Outotec® Mineral Wool Furnace design is based on Metso’s proven proprietary equipment used in various ferroalloy and slag cleaning applications. The furnace is part of Metso’s Planet Positive offering.
Benefits of Metso’s Outotec® Mineral Wool Furnace:
- Decreased CO2 emissions from the furnace
- High plant availability and long furnace campaign life
- Modular design that is easy to tailor for individual applications
- Safe furnace operation
Metso can also provide a complete plant solution, including the furnace, gas cleaning and other related proprietary technology, as well process control, including different types of digital solutions
