South32 grants maintenance contract for Worsley Alumina

South32 has awarded a maintenance contract at its Worsley Alumina refinery, Australia, to EnerMech. The three-year agreement, with extension options, sits under EnerMech’s Infrastructure and Industrial Solutions business line, which specialises in all aspects of engineered solutions for land-based energy and industrial developments across the full asset lifecycle.

This scope of work covers inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), rope access and insulation services at the refinery near Collie, approximately 200km south of Perth. The Worsley Alumina operation integrates bauxite mining near Boddington with alumina refining.

It produces powder for export to smelters worldwide, including South32’s Hillside and Mozal aluminium smelters in South Africa. Since commencing operations in 1984, the facility has grown to become one of the largest alumina refineries globally.

EnerMech has maintained a continuous presence at the site since 2019, supporting operations with a dedicated core crew and scaling resources during major shutdowns.

South32 owns 86% cent of Worsley Alumina, with 10% held by Japan Alumina Associates (Australia) and the remaining 4% held by Sojitz Alumina.
