Hindalco commissions superfine precipitated aluminium trihydrate plant
Hindalco Industries has commissioned a 30,000 ton per year superfine precipitated aluminium trihydrate (PPT ATH) manufacturing plant in Belagavi, Karnataka, India.
The facility is designed to meet domestic demand from the wire and cable industry and can be expanded to 60,000 tons a year as demand grows.
In addition, Hindalco said that the site is the world’s only speciality alumina plant to operate entirely on renewable energy.

“This investment reflects Hindalco’s focus on creating value, moving up the value chain and delivering advanced solutions that meet the emerging needs of customers in India and global markets.”
PPT ATH is used in Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) cables, polymer insulators, thermal insulation, composites and paints.
In applications such as cables, it helps suppress flame propagation and smoke generation without releasing halogen acid gases, supporting safer electrical and infrastructure systems.
Demand is growing with stricter fire-safety standards, rising EV and infrastructure adoption, and the shift towards sustainable, high-performance materials.
Furthermore, the plant incorporates automated controls for critical processes and a fully integrated manufacturing ecosystem, enabling stringent control over feedstock quality and product consistency.
The Belagavi refinery is also powered by 100% renewable energy from biomass, solar and wind sources, enabling the production of high-performance speciality materials with a lower environmental footprint.
