Harmony Gold: State of Wafi-Golpu Project
Harmony, together with its Wafi-Golpu Joint Venture partner Newcrest Mining Limited, looks forward to re-engaging with the State of Papua New Guinea (PNG) and progressing discussions on the Special Mining Lease for the Wafi-Golpu Project.
With regard to the permitting of the Project under the Environment Act of 2000, the companies are awaiting a decision by the Minister for Environment, Conservation and Climate Change regarding the assessment of the Environment Impact Statement for the Project.
Harmony considers Deep Sea Tailings Placement to be the safest and most environmentally and socially responsible tailings management solution for the Project for the duration of its operations and beyond mine closure, which conclusion is supported by industry-leading scientific studies and extensive data gathered by over four years of oceanographic investigations.
The joint venture partners continue to engage with all stakeholders concerned to ensure that we agree on the safest and most environmentally and socially responsible tailings management solution for Wafi-Golpu.
