The Bahrain-based smelter signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Metallurgical Industries Holding today (September 3).
The MoU sets the framework for exploring strategic collaboration opportunities to potentially develop an alumina refinery in Egypt, with potential for offtake agreements and equity participation.
The signing took place during an official visit to Egypt by the Bahrain Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa the Minister of Finance and National Economy, Chairman of Mumtalakat Holding Company, and Mr. Mohammed Al Sadawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metallurgical Industries Holding.
