Rio Tinto achieves record bauxite production

Aluminium raw materials provider and smelter operator Rio Tinto achieved a production record earlier this year. It reported a 12% year on year rise in production of the important bauxite ore in the first three months of the year.

In its latest financial note it said production was at 14,966 million tonnes for the quarter. It also said March was a record month for the production of bauxite for the company.

It said its Amrun bauxite mine on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia, continued to operate above capacity thanks to the implementation of Safe Production System drove higher plant availability and utilisation rates.

Elsewhere the company’s aluminium production in the first three months of 2025 remained at the same level as the corresponding period the year before at approximately 829, 000 tonnes.

However it warned production and energy supply at its Kitimat facility, Canada was impacted due to lower reservoir levels.
