Aluminium industry responds to US 25% tariffs
Novelis Aluminium says “We appreciate President Trump’s continued focus on strong trade actions to support the aluminium industry in the United States. Novelis is reviewing the details of the Executive Order to assess its potential impact on domestic and global operations. More will be learned from the Administration over the coming days.
“Novelis will continue to partner with the Administration to ensure actions support U.S. investments and supply and safeguard the long-term competitiveness of aluminium as the material choice for U.S. and global beverage can, automotive, specialties and aerospace markets.”
The Australian Aluminium Council responsed to Trump’s tariffs that bauxite, alumina and aluminium are globally traded and there are interdependencies in these supply chains.
“Its early days and we are still working to understand the impact of any potential tariffs on Australia’s aluminium trade.
“We will continue working with the Australian government and its representatives on this important issue.”
Anders Vindegg, Norsk Hydro commented: “Hydro supports free and fair trade. We are preparing for different scenarios, but it is too early to say just how the announcement from Trump and U.S. to increase tariffs on aluminium will affect our operations in U.S., Europe and other parts of the world long term.
