Egyptalum doubles aluminium wire production capacity

Egyptalum has opened a new production line with a capacity of 60,000 tons per year. This will double the company’s production of aluminium wire to 120,000 tons per year. This marks the first phase of the Obelisk Solar Power Generation project in Naga Hammadi, Egypt.

The Prime Minister of Egypt, Mostafa Madbouly, visited the facility to celebrate the achievement. Prime Minister Madbouly stated: “The development of Misr Aluminum [Egyptalum] comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to modernise the industrial castles of the public business sector.”

The Minister of Public Business Sector for Egypt, Mohamed Shimi, added: “The new production line doubles the company’s production of aluminium wire to 120 thousand tons per year. It represents an important step to enhance added value and support the national industry.”

These new investments will enhance the position and competitiveness of Egyptalum locally and internationally.

$17.5 million was invested into the expansion, and was implemented in collaboration with Italian manufacturer Properzi, a specialist in aluminium wire casting and drawing equipment.

Dr. Eng. Mahmoud Abdel Aleem Agour, Executive Managing Director of Egyptalum, noted that operation tests have already begun to reach the maximum capacity – achieving target performance and succeeding in delivering the first batches to a number of customers.

The company’s output will be exported to several foreign markets, including: Spain, Poland, Morocco, Italy, Syria, Slovenia and Greece.
