Tata Steel orders combined pickling and galvanizing line

It will feature Danieli proprietary Turboflo® pickling technology, NOx burners, compact X-Jet gas-wiping. Q-Robot Zinc and DanCoaters

Tata Steel has contracted Danieli to supply a new, 700,000-tpy HRPGL line to be installed at its Cold Rolling Complex West, at the Tarapur facility, India, to produce different coated grades and process strips of different thicknesses and widths.

The target of the investment is to diversify the portfolio of hot-rolled galvanized products, and at competitive costs.

The pickling section, based on Danieli patented Turboflo® technology with advanced turbulent channel, will allow the highest energy savings and process flexibility regardless of strip grade and operational speed.

Danieli Centro Combustion will provide the vertical heat-to-coat furnace equipped low-NOx burners, high-efficiency jet coolers and after-pot coolers, to process the hot-rolled strip.

The latest-generation compact X-Jet gas-wiping system will ensure the best coating uniformity and metal coating-thickness control.

An L1- integrated Q-Robot Zinc will precisely and safely skim the zinc bath surface, remove dross and collect it into a dedicated container, helping to conserve zinc.

The strip finishing and leveling facilities will guarantee strip roughness and flatness up to 5IU. Anti-fingerprint and/or passivation coating will be applied by DanCoaters with ±10% tolerance of average wet=film setpoint. A turret-type side trimmer with scrap chopper will guarantee strip width requirements and eliminate any edge defect from the incoming material.

The plant will be run by Danieli Automation electrical and automation systems, guaranteeing full process control and minimizing manual interventions.

Line commissioning is planned in early 2026.
