Aluminium producer suspended its operations amid social unrest

Hulamin is located in a semi-industrial area in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal. Since Sunday, 11 July 2021 the local climate around the Company’s operations has been volatile due to significant social unrest. A number of neighbouring retail stores have been looted and one has been gutted by fire. To date there has been no damage to Hulamin’s property or assets.

Public transport in Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas has been suspended, resulting in employee turnout being low.

Hulamin is a South African company based in Pietermaritzburg that specialises in rolled aluminium products for precision and high technology applications. The company supplies a significant proportion of the world’s ultra high-end aluminium products.

Hulamin’s top priority is the safety of its people and assets. The Company has accordingly suspended operations on Monday, 12 July 2021. The Company is insured for all assets and loss of income.

Hulamin says it strongly appeals to the Government and the security cluster to restore law and order to our community. Once stability has been established, employees will be able to return to work and operations can recommence.

Shareholders will be updated as the situation develops.
